It’s incredible to think that 10 years have passed since RBH incorporated in September 2014 and officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in May 2015! What began as a shared vision of three dedicated individuals hoping to create a community bike shop in Rockville has grown into a vibrant hub with a temporary shop space and a team of regular volunteers, all driven by the same mission—to connect the community on two wheels.
In honor of our anniversary, we’re keeping our t-shirt fundraising campaign going through the end of the year. You can order yours online at https://www.bonfire.com/rbh-tees/, where you'll find a selection of RBH t-shirts in various colors, with both short-sleeve and long-sleeve options available.
Other updates…
This September, RBH was excited to return to the 2024 Wild Goose Chase in Cambridge, Maryland. Originally created in 2008 by the legendary women’s cycling pioneer Georgena Terry, the Wild Goose Chase raises funds for the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Women cyclists from near and far gathered in Cambridge enjoying a weekend filled with camaraderie as they rode the scenic, low-traffic roads around the Refuge.
During the 3-hour morning and afternoon sessions, participants learned essential bike maintenance skills, including adjusting brakes and gearing, changing flat tires, and keeping their drivetrains clean and in top condition. It was a hands-on learning experience with plenty of questions and enthusiasm, helping riders feel more confident about taking care of their bikes!
In October, RBH was thrilled to join forces again with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation for their Annual Bicycle Donation Drive. Thanks to the generosity of the community, over 300 bikes were collected, with around 87 going directly to RBH. Additional bikes were donated to Bikes for the World. Our dedicated volunteers arrived before dawn to help with removing pedals, adjusting handlebars, and preparing the bikes for easy storage.
These donations will enable us to gear up for the TERRIFIC Kids program in the spring and continue our mission of making refurbished adult bikes available to the local community. Thank you to everyone who made this drive a success!
As the holiday season approaches, we look forward to continue celebrating our 10th anniversary year with you! We are happy to announce a partnership with Rockville Rewards, a program that offers a digital card unlocking exclusive discounts at local small businesses while supporting local nonprofits like RBH.
